Why You Shouldn’t Wait To Schedule Your Child’s First Visit
Drs Callahan, Flanagan, Smith, and Stock as well as the American Association of Orthodontists recommend that you bring your child in for their first visit by age seven. By evaluating patients at a young age, we will be able to recognize many potential problems before they become too severe and implement the appropriate treatment. If none of these problems are present we will place the patient in "growth guidance" where their development is monitored by the doctors until it is determined they are ready for treatment. All exams and growth guidance appointments are performed at no charge.
Starting treatment at a younger age can be much more effective and is more likely to achieve optimal results. This is due to the fact that the child’s permanent teeth have not finished erupting, enabling us to thoroughly examine the teeth from front to back and side to side.
What Your Child Can Expect In His or Her First Visit
First and foremost, we will want to take a look at your child’s bite to determine if there are any problems that need to be addressed. Some of the things we will be looking for include crowding, open bites, over bites, and gummy smiles. If it is determined that treatment is necessary, your doctor will provide you with all the details about the process and what type of treatment would work best.
Although we offer several types of treatment, your doctor will explain the appropriate kind based on the current state of your teeth and jaw. Unfortunately, not all treatment will work as efficiently as others. When it is decided that an orthodontic appliance is the most appropriate form of treatment, we will happily educate you on the best kind of treatment.
