Dr. John grew up in the Strathmore area of Syracuse and later in Manlius, graduating from Christian Brothers Academy in 1972. He received his undergraduate degree from Notre Dame and earned a D.D.S. from Georgetown University. In 1982, he received a post-doctorial degree in orthodontics from St. Louis University and returned to Syracuse to join his father's practice.
Dr. John is actively involved in strengthening the orthodontic profession. He is an officer of the Northeast Society of Orthodontics (NESO), which includes New York, New England, and the eastern Canadian provinces, and will serve as NESO's president in 2012. On the national level, he is a member of the Council on Insurance for the American Association of Orthodontics (AAO).
Dr. John has been happily married since 1982 to Elet, a professor of law and public policy in the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University. His son, Michael, attends Rochester Institute of Technology. When he is not creating great smiles or working with NESO and the AAO, Dr. John can be found cheering at the Carrier Dome, playing golf or racquetball, scuba diving, and enjoying the company of family and friends.
Dr. John truly loves what he does. "Our patients are great people and our staff is terrific. We create healthy mouths and great smiles and have fun doing it."
Dr. Flanagan is a native of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and received his dental and orthodontic degrees from the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Flanagan’s desire to provide his patients with excellent orthodontics led him to earn the highest and most difficult designation an orthodontist can receive – that of Board Certified Diplomate. Only a small percentage of orthodontists in the United States are board certified. Dr. Flanagan believes in not only providing excellent state of the art orthodontics but providing it in an empathetic and caring manner. He also wants his patients to enjoy their time spent with the Callahan, Flanagan and Smith orthodontic family. Dr. Flanagan’s favorite time in treating his patients is when their braces are removed and they see their beautiful new smile for the first time. He particularly enjoys seeing the newfound confidence received from having healthy, straight teeth that can last a lifetime!
Dr. Flanagan lives in the Fabius-Pompey area where he is active in the community with his wife, Cindy and daughters, Janelle and Shauna.
Dr. Vincent Smith joined Callahan Flanagan & Smith over 15 years ago! He was born in Kansas and grew up in northern Virginia. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas and his Dental Degree from the Medical College of Virginia. He received his Orthodontic and Masters of Science degrees from Detroit University.
Dr. Smith is involved in numerous professional and community activities. He has been happily married for 17 years and has three handsome boys. He enjoys snowboarding, biking, soccer, basketball and the beach, but his greatest joy is his family. He has been known to harass his former patients in public places about their retainers! His goal is to give his patients the attention they deserve while providing excellent orthodontic results, everyday!
